St. Nicolas
Orphanage & St. Trinity Monastery
The work of creating St. Nicolas Orphanage
started in 1988 in the yard of St. Trinity Church in Novy
Khan ubder the supervision of the Church Board of Trustees
and with the blessing of His Holiness Maxim, Patriarch
of Bulgaria. We continue to build the main building and
expand it, so that we can accept more homeless children.
The construction works started with 240 Euro
only. Since the very beginning and untill now the Orphanage
has been supported and maintained by private donations
only. We have not asked the Church or the Government for
funding.
We are very grateful to our friends from
Netherlands who helped a lot in the work of building our
Home. 1n 1992, the theology professor Tucker from Eppe,
Netherlands, contacted professor Stoyanov from the Theology
Academy in Sofia with the intent to help in some way the
East Orthodox Church, and thus he was given our address.
He organized students from Eppe to come for 3 consecutive
summers and take part in the building of the Home. Our
friends from Netherlands not only provided the money,
but they donated a car and a tractor.
From this time, already 15 years have passed
by. With much love and appreciation we humbly offer some
pictures from the unforgettable summer days when the foundations
were laid. Please, if you recognize your friends, send
them the link to our site, so that they know, that we
remember them and we mention them in our prays. Foto
album.
Untill today (2007) more than 250 persons
have found shelter, warm food and clothing here. Homeless
people can live here untill they manage to find themselves
a living.
In April 2007 in the orphanage live 67 people
- 35 children and 32 - over 16 years of age.
